According to the World Health Organization, the number of elderly citizens will significantly increase between 2015 and 2050 from 12% to 22%. In a few years, we will have a generation of more older people than ever before.
Among the many needs the elderly population faces is the need to mental health. Over 20% of adults aged 60 and over suffer from a mental or neurological disorder, the most common of them being dementia and depression.
If programs are in place now to promote mental health to the increasing elderly population, in the years to come these programs will have been tested and perfected to the point of successfully enabling older citizens to live a healthy and happy life.
